# Polynomials (Chapter 2, Exercise 2.1) – Class 10 Maths Solutions NCERT

The Chapter 2 of Class 10 Mathematics under NCERT Syllabus is about the Polynomials. This page contains the solutions of Exercise 2.1, Chapter 2 of Class 10 Mathematics. The Exercise 2.1 deals with the Geometrical Meaning of the Zeros of a Polynomial.

## Question 1: The graphs of $y = p(x)$ are given in Figure below, for some polynomials $p(x)$. Find the number of zeroes of $p(x)$, in each case.

### i.

Solution:

In the above figure, the graph of the polynomial $p(x)$ does not cut the $x$ axis at any point. Therefore, the number of zeros of the polynomial $p(x)$ is $0$.

### ii.

Solution:

In the above figure, the graph of the polynomial $p(x)$ cuts the $x-axis$ at one point. Therefore, the number of zeros of the polynomial $p(x)$ is $1$.

### iii.

Solution:

In the above figure, the graph of the polynomial $p(x)$ cuts the $x-axis$ at three points. Therefore, the number of zeros of the polynomial $p(x)$ is $3$.

### iv.

Solution:

In the above figure, the graph of the polynomial $p(x)$ cuts the $x-axis$ at two points. Therefore, the number of zeros of the polynomial $p(x)$ is $2$.

### v.

Solution:

In the above figure, the graph of the polynomial $p(x)$ cuts the $x-axis$ at four points. Therefore, the number of zeros of the polynomial $p(x)$ is $4$.

### vi.

Solution:

In the above figure, the graph of the polynomial $p(x)$ cuts the $x-axis$ at three points. Therefore, the number of zeros of the polynomial $p(x)$ is $3$.
