De Morgan’s Law

Augustus De Morgan who was a British Mathematician and Logician, formulated two laws about sets, they are:

Let A and B are two sets, then

  • The first law states that the complement of A union B is equals to the intersection of complement of A with complement of B.

(A ∪ B) ′ = A′ ∩ B′

  • The second law states that the complement of A intersection B is equals to the union of complement of A with complement of B.

(A ∩ B) ′ = A′ ∪ B′
